Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Sports Medicine Fellowship
Philosophy
We emphasize a team approach to sports medicine. Primary care physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, trainers, and others work together, allowing us to utilize available resources and maximize benefits when treating athletes. We believe this is the best way to approach sports medicine.
Program Overview
The Medical College of Wisconsin Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Sports Medicine Fellowship is a 1-year clinical fellowship in nonoperative sports medicine. The majority of the fellowship will be spent in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of sports related injuries and medical conditions. An optional focus will be unique issues that affect the female athlete, although all aspects of general sports medicine will be encountered (i.e. exercise physiology, nutrition, sports psychology, cardiology and electrodiagnostic medicine).
Sports medicine experience
Fellowship experiences are diverse, encompassing a full range of education, research, and training activities. Patients will be seen in the Sports Medicine Center. One day per week will be protected for research. The fellow will assist in training room and team event coverage at Divine Holy Angels High School, LaFleur's Gymnastics, and Trinity Irish Dance. The fellow will be involved in clinical program development and community education on various topics related to sports medicine.
