Orthopaedic Traumatology

The Milwaukee Regional Medical Center has one of the leading trauma centers in the Midwest. As a designated Level-I trauma center, a team of trauma surgeons including Orthopaedic Trauma Service surgeons, are standing by around the clock to provide immediate care for the multiple trauma patient.

The orthopaedic staff includes trauma surgeons who are skilled and experienced in treating acute musculoskeletal injuries. The department has the capability to replant major limbs and perform complex reconstructions using advanced microsurgical techniques. The department has special expertise in stabilization of spinal and pelvic fractures.

The traumatologists are also experts in treating the sequelae of trauma; post-traumatic reconstruction, non-unions, mal-unions, and infection. Under study is the Ilizarov method, a technique for bone-lengthening, and dealing with bone loss resulting from trauma and infection.
