Anne Z. Hoch, DO, Associate Professor - 2009 Champion in Women's Health Award Recipient
Anne Z. Hoch, DO, Medical College of Wisconsin physiatrist and Director of the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Women's Sports Medicine Program, has been honored with a 2009 Champion in Women's Health award by the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate leadership and devote themselves to improving quality of life for women and families.
Dr. Hoch won this award for her work in osteoporosis and her discoveries about a condition known as the female athlete triad, which combines low energy availability, menstrual abnormalities and low bone mineral density. The condition often leads to the same steroid and hormonal profiles as postmenopausal women. In a landmark 2007 study, Dr. Hoch showed sedentary high school girls are even more at risk for future osteoporosis than their athletic counterparts.
She has a national reputation in women’s health issues, specifically for her research related to the triad and cardiovascular disease. She is the Director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sports Medicine Fellowship. She initiates and leads program development for both clinical and research related to active and athletic women. Current research involved the prevalence of the triad in the Milwaukee Ballet in addition to endothelial dysfunction. She has been named to Best Doctors & Top Doctors several times. She recently has received the Champion in Women’s Health Award for the State of Wisconsin.
